This beautiful ring was made during a period called the Art Nouveau Era! This time was also called "La Belle Epoque" in French which translates to "A Beautiful Time".
This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came our of this period. The Art Nouveau period was famous for it's flowing organic designs, flowing ladies, flowing floral designs, regal designs.Australian Opal was first discovered in the 1890's. This form of Opal was very expensive when first coming on the market and only the richest could afford it.
It was famous for it's beautiful play of colors that include Red, White, Blue, Green Orange. Traditionally up until the discovery of Australian Opal most Opal stones only had 2-3 colors at most and were very opaque in hue.
This particular Opal is either a Black or Boulder Opal! These opals were famous for having absolutely no white base, and only incredible vibrant colors with dark under tones and gorgeous patterns. Because we can not see the bottom of the stone, we can not tell which opal type it is exactly. The Opal gem stones in this gorgeous ring is beautifully cabochon cut and show cases a stunningly smooth polished surface.The gem stone features a gorgeous color pattern of unique yellow, green, blue, and brown that dance together beautifully. The gem stone is in great condition and weighs in at a generous 6.32 Cts. The gold work in this piece is entirely hand crafted out of gorgeous yellow gold and features a stunning design! The design includes a gorgeous thick recessed prong setting that holds the HUGE opal in place beautifully! The setting features hand carved designs and textures that give it a stunning style that compliments the gem stone perfectly. The ring measures about 1" long by 3/4" wide. Antique and Vintage jewelry is disappearing at alarming rates.
